About the 2023 New Zealand Election Study

The 2023 New Zealand Election Study will be in the field in the weeks following the 2023 general election with a target sample size of about 3000, including 1000 people of Māori descent.  Questionnaires are sent by mail to a sample from the electoral rolls, and can be returned in hard copy or online. The online survey also includes te reo Māori and Chinese language options. The 2023 NZES is funded by Victoria University of Wellington, the Electoral Commission, and the University of Auckland.

The NZES 2023 datasets will hosted by the Australian Data Archive.

NZES 2023 frequency tables, weighted by Māori/General electorates, age, gender, highest educational qualification, and party vote and turnout, will be made available in 2024 after the data has been prepared and is ready for analysis.
